Paper Grades, Gussets and Finishing

Natural kraft paper is widely used for its tactile, understated look, while white kraft supports stronger color reproduction. The correct basis weight depends on bag width, height, gusset, expected load and whether the contents create moisture. A square bottom improves loading stability for food boxes and cups, while side gussets allow volume without an excessively wide face.

Custom options include reinforced handles, folded tops, glassine or food-safe inner bags, and selected surface finishes. Flexographic printing is practical for many paper bag runs and can maintain consistent branding across sizes. Before mass production, test the bag with a complete order and carry it for the expected customer journey.

A useful bag test recreates the customer's complete journey. Load the largest expected order, lift it repeatedly from the counter, carry it for several minutes and set it down on a slightly damp surface. Check handle attachment, bottom deflection, side tearing and whether containers remain level. If the bag will hold hot food, also assess moisture after the normal holding time. Print proofs should be reviewed on the selected kraft or white paper because the substrate changes color and contrast. The approved specification should include finished dimensions, paper grade and weight, handle type, reinforcement, print colors, carton quantity and load target. These details make future comparisons meaningful and help stores receive the same carrying performance across repeat orders.
